DREAM AND FRUSTRATION

The European contribution to the history of the skyscraper has been traditionally attributed to the experiments of the vanguard’s and modern movement’s leaders, and to the scarce but emblematic post WWII realizations. It is true that additional contributions of the more conservative side were known, proceeding from the periphery of the more usual scenarios, but the collective conscience invested them with a minimal role in the development of the typology.

Dream and Frustration presents over 600 skyscraper projects hailing from 22 European countries which demonstrate that this belief undervalued not only the contribution of the conservative sector but also that of European architects in general.
